Just finished woodburning and painting this little side table that I picked up at an estate sale a month ago. It is only 14″ square and stands just 17″ tall. #pyrography#woodburning#painted furniture

Wooden Books
Years ago I had a wooden portfolio cover made and I woodburned and painted it. Here is the front and back of that book. Now I am working on a commission scrapbook cover of wood and pyrography. That reminded me of this old book, and I pulled it out to see how my work has evolved. I am happy with the growth of my detail and burning abilities since I did this piece so long ago

Pyrography
py·rog·ra·phy
pīˈrägrəfē noun
The art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point.
For most of my paintings the medium is listed as, Pyrography and Acrylic on Wood Panel.
At shows many people ask me about the “pyrography” word and are interested to understand just what it means. My version of pyrography is not typical wood burning. I have been working with this technique since 1996 and still enjoy every painting. I use a very basic and inexpensive tool and just the chisel tip. Nothing fancy. Then just do layers of burning then painting then burning and more paint until i have the image I want.
